Vintage and orphan quilt blocks often find their way to us without a finished quilt—or sometimes without any story at all. They may be tucked into an old sewing box, discovered at an antique shop, inherited from someone we love, or simply left behind from a project that was never completed.

The Orphan Block Discovery Guide, part of Goldenrod’s Handwork Companion Series, was created to help you slow down and take a closer look at these special pieces of handwork. Use the guide to examine your block, notice clues in its fabrics and construction, record what you discover, and begin thinking about ways it might be preserved, displayed, or given new life.
